Located on the Old Port of La Rochelle, the hotel de l’Océan is close to all the must-see and iconic places of this port city. Within a few minutes, you can reach the animal park, the museums (Maritime, Natural History, New World, etc.), the aquarium, the Théâtre de la Coursive, the Plage de la Concurrence, the river shuttles (Fort Boyard, Oleron, Ré, and Aix islands). And if you want to get around more quickly, the city of La Rochelle has self-service municipal bicycles (Yélos).

Our team is eager to welcome you and to accompany you during your stay (free map, ideas and advice for visits, luggage storage, cab reservation…). We will listen to your needs so that you spend a pleasant moment in our establishment. The reception is open from 7:30 am to 10:30 pm and during the night, a night watchman is present for the security of the hotel.

Hotel in the heritage of La Rochelle

Until the 19th century, a street occupied the space in the center of the current Cour des dames, so the quay was much shallower. It was the rue de la Bourserie or Bourcerie. These houses were destroyed between 1806 and 1822.

The building 36 cour des Dames gave until then on the street, and not on the port which probably explains the presence of an arcade, whereas the buildings giving on the port do not have any.

The presence of a street until the beginning of the 19th century prevents the identification of the building on old painted or engraved views, from the 18th century in particular, such as the painting by Horace Vernet representing the port of La Rochelle.

Our hotel is an old shipowner’s house with this heritage full of history has a vertical architectural framework. Therefore, our establishment does not have an elevator. Nevertheless, the team will be happy to help you with your luggage.
